O death, where is thy sting, O Hades, where is thy victory?
(I Corinthians 15:55, Greek Orthodox Version).
Unlike Joshua the son of Nun in the Old Covenant, JOSHUA of Nazareth did not come to liberate the Promised Land from the Romans.....He came to liberate his people from Sheol or Hades.
There is no English equivalent to the Greek word HADES so we have to borrow that word from the Greek language. JOSHUA was bilingual, He spoke Greek and Hebrew during His earthly ministry, and in the Book of Revelation He calls Himself Alpha and Omega 4 times (Revelation 1:8, 1:11, 21:6, 22:13).
The languages spoken in the New Jerusalem will probably be Hebrew and Greek.
And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. (Greek Orthodox New Testament).
Here is that same verse incorrectly translated from the Latin Vulgate:
And I say to thee: That thou art Peter; and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. (Matthew 16:18). (Latin Vulgate Version).
Et ego dico tibi quia tu es Petrus et super hanc petram aedificabo ecclesiam meam et portae inferi non praevalebunt adversum eam. (Latin Vulgate Version).
HADES and HELL (inferno in Latin) are not the same place....One is the temporary abode of the unbelievers while the other is permanent or eternal.
The Spanish translation has that verse correctly translated from the Greek: :
Y yo también te digo, que tú eres Pedro, y sobre esta roca edificaré mi iglesia; y las puertas del Hades no prevalecerán contra ella. (Reina-Valera Translation).
The Spanish word for HELL is infierno.
Hades (hâ´dêz) noun
1. Greek Mythology. a. The god of the netherworld and dispenser of earthly riches. b. This netherworld kingdom, the abode of the shades of the dead.
2. Also hades . Hell.
There is no such thing as Greek "mythology." All the demigods of the Greek pantheon actually existed before the Great Flood of Noah. St. Peter said that those fallen angels were imprisoned in Tartarus which is another name for the Bottomless Pit or the Abyss:
For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to Tartarus, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment. (II St. Peter 2:4).
Here is that verse from the Latin Vulgate:
For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but delivered them, drawn down by infernal ropes to the lower hell, unto torments, to be reserved unto judgment. (Latin Vulgate Version).
Around 250 B.C., the Hebrew Old Covenant was translated into Koine Greek. There was no word in Greek for the Hebrew Sabbath, so they borrowed that word from Hebrew. This is the correct method of translating the Bible . . . or any book!!
Because the Papacy builds everything on St. Peter; we have St. Peter's Square and Basilica, with the chair of St. Peter and statues of the Saint all over Vatican City.
In the Old Covewnant, all the dead went to a place called Sheol in Hebrew. Sheol was located somewhere under the earth and was divided into 3 compartments:
Hebrew Sheol before the Resurrection of JOSHUA
The Bottomless Pit or Abyss
Paradise or Abraham's Bosom
Most people had to die first before going to Sheol but there is an incident where some people who rebelled against Moses went down alive into Sheol. Moses said:
If these (rebellious) men die the common death of all men, or if they be visited after the visitation of all men; then JEHOVAH hath not sent me. But if JEHOVAH make a new thing, and the earth open her mouth, and swallow them up, with all that appertain unto them, and they go down alive into Sheol; then ye shall understand that these men have provoked JEHOVAH.
And its came to pass, as he had made an end of speaking all these words, that the ground split asunder that was under them: And the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them up, and their houses, and all the men that appertained unto Korah, and all their goods. They, and all that appertained to them, went down alive into Sheol, and the earth closed upon them: and they perished from among the congregation. (Numbers 16:29-33).
All the righteous dead from the time of Adam and Eve went to Paradise or Abraham's Bosom. Even the patriarch Abraham, who was called the Friend of JEHOVAH, was down there.
Under the Mosaic system, millions of animals were offered in sacrifice in the great Temple in Jerusalem. The sacrifices only covered sins but could not blot them out completely:
For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins. (Hebrews 10:4).
These animal sacrifices could never get anyone out of Sheol but were just a type of the coming Messiah whose blood would be shed to get them out of Sheol.
Around 250 years before Christ, the Hebrew Scriptures were translated into KOINE Greek. This translation was called the Septuagint or LXX for the 70 Hebrew scholars that took part in the translation.
No genuine copy of the Septuagint exists today except in the Secret Archives of the Vatican. In the Greek language, Sheol became Hades or the realm of the dead:
Greek HADES before the Resurrection of JOSHUA
The Bottomless Pit or Abyss
Paradise or Abraham's Bosom
Joshua—the expert on the afterlife—told the story of 2 men that died and their 2 different destinations:
There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day:
And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores,
And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.
And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; And in HADES he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.
But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented. And beside all this, between us and you there is a great chasm fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence. (Luke 16:19-26).
Here is that verse again from the Latin Vulgate:
And it came to pass that the beggar died and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom. And the rich man also died: and he was buried in hell. (Latin Vulgate Version).
The rich man suddenly became concerned about his brothers salvation so that they would not join him in that terrible place:
Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house:
For I have five brothers; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment.
Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.
And he said, No, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent.
And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead. (Luke 16:27-31).
The Latin Vulgate changed REPENT to DO PENANCE:
But he said: No, father Abraham: but if one went to them from the dead, they will do penance. (Latin Vulgate Version).
This is DEADLY advise from the dead because doing penance never saved anybody....Abraham also told the rich man that there was a great CHASM or ABYSS between Torments and Paradise so crossing over from one location to the other was impossible!!
Joshua the Son of God came to this earth to empty or defeat HADES and to keep HIS people from ever having to go there again. However, his death did not apply to those in Torments.
Before He rose from the dead, joshua actually spent 3 days and 3 nights in the Paradise section of Hades:
And Joshua said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, Today shalt thou be with me in PARADISE. (Luke 23:43).
Even Jerome could not corrupt that verse:
And Joshua said to him: Amen I say to thee: This day thou shalt be with me in paradise (Latin: paradiso). (Luke 23:43). (Latin Vulgate Version).
Joshua did not go to HELL after his death as claimed by the Latin Apostles' Creed because JOSHUA was sinless and HELL (Gk. Gehenna) will be empty until the end of time.
Shortly after His Resurrection, Joshua appeared to the Apostle Paul on the Damascus Road and his life was never the same.
St. Paul had one message to preach to the entire Roman Empire: the Resurrection of Christ and the coming day of judgment:
And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:
Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead. (Acts 17:30-31).
Again the Vulgate changes REPENT to DO PENANCE:
And God indeed having winked at the times of this ignorance, now declareth unto men that all should every where do penance. (Latin Vulgate Version).
When Joshua arose triumphant from the dead, He received the KEYS of death and Hades from His Father:
I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of HADES and of death. (Revelation 1:18).
Joshua unlocked the gates of HADES with His KEYS and took all the occupants of Abraham's Bosom to Heaven:
Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men. (Ephesians 4:8).
Abraham's Bosom or Paradise is now EMPTY and closed permanently. This was a fulfillment of the prophecy that Joshua made to St. Peter 2 years previously.
Greek HADES after the Resurrection of JOSHUA
The Bottomless Pit or Abyss
The former residents of Abraham's Bosom and the dead in Christ are now sitting on thrones and reigning in Heaven:
And round about the throne were four and twenty seats: and upon the seats I saw four and twenty elders sitting, clothed in white raiment; and they had on their heads crowns of gold. (Revelation 4:4).
These elders represent the Old and New Covenant saints who are now reigning with Christ.
Nobody is in the place called HELL (Latin: inferno) right now. HELL was created when Satan and his angels rebelled against the Son of God or JEHOVAH:
For Tophet is ordained of old; yea, for the king (Satan) it is prepared; he hath made it deep and large: the pile thereof is fire and much wood; the breath of JEHOVAH, like a stream of brimstone, doth kindle it. (Isaiah 30:33).
The Hebrew word TOPHET is translated by the Greek word GEHENNA.
And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell (Greek: gehenna). (Matthew 10:28).
The unbelievers will be sentenced to HELL or Gehenna on the LAST DAY:
Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels. (Matthew 25:41).
At the end of time, HADES is cast into HELL or the Lake of Fire:
And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and Hades delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.
And death and HADES were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.(Revelation 20:13-15).
If HADES is HELL that means that HELL was cast into HELL. A ludicrous statement indeed as appears in the Latin Vulgate Version:
And hell and death were cast into the pool of fire. This is the second death. (Latin Vulgate Version).
HELL will exist somewhere in the universe for all eternity:
The ETERNAL state: Hebrew TOPHET, Greek GEHENNA, Latin INFERNO or English HELL
Death, Hades, Satan with his angels and demons, all the Popes (White and Black), and whosoever is not found written in the Book of Life.
Jesus the Son of God shed His precious blood that none would join Satan in HELL or the Lake of Fire. St. Peter said:
The Lord (JOSHUA) is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. (II St. Peter 3:9).
The Latin Vulgate changed the word repentance to penance:
The Lord delayeth not his promise, as some imagine, but dealeth patiently for your sake, not willing that any should perish, but that all should return to penance. (Latin Vulgate Version).
The Latin Church purgatory and Limbo is all a MYTH....A little knowledge of Hebrew and Greek is all that is necessary to understand what the Holy Bible teaches about the next world.
Unbelievers go to Hades upon their death, and then must await the general resurrection on the Last Day, before being sentenced to HELL or the Lake of Fire!!
